Bibi Rajni story

The story of Bibi Rajni is a significant tale in Sikh history that emphasizes unwavering faith and divine intervention. Bibi Rajni was the youngest daughter of Rai Duni Chand, a wealthy man who served as a revenue collector in Punjab during the era of Guru Ram Das Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru.

Despite her father’s wealth and status, Bibi Rajni was known for her deep devotion to God. Her father, however, was displeased by her attributing all good fortune to God’s blessings rather than his own efforts. To punish her, he married her off to a man afflicted with leprosy, hoping that her faith would waver.

Undeterred by her circumstances, Bibi Rajni continued to serve her husband with devotion. One day, while passing by a pool (later known as the site of the Golden Temple in Amritsar), she left her husband by the water’s edge while she went to fetch food. During her absence, her husband witnessed a crow dive into the pool and emerge with its feathers turned white. Curious and desperate, he bathed in the water and was miraculously cured of his leprosy.

When Bibi Rajni returned, she was astonished to find her husband healthy and whole. Initially, she did not recognize him, but he convinced her of his identity by showing her a finger that had not been fully immersed in the water and thus remained affected by leprosy. This miraculous event reinforced her faith, and the couple returned to Guru Ram Das Ji to express their gratitude.

The site where this miracle occurred became known for its sacred water, and it was eventually chosen as the location for the construction of the Harmandir Sahib, the holiest shrine in Sikhism.
